Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart
and try to love the questions themselves,
like locked rooms
and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue.
Do not now seek the answers,
which cannot be given you
because you would not be able to live them.
And the point is to live everything.
Live the questions now.
Perhaps you will then gradually,
without noticing it,
live along some distant day
into the answer.

-Ranier Maria Rilke

Living is no laughing matter:
you must live with great seriousness
like a squirrel, for example--
I mean without looking for something beyond and above living,
I mean living must be your whole occupation.
Living is no laughing matter:
you must take it seriously,
so much so and to such a degree
that, for example, your hands tied behind your back,
your back to the wall,
or else in a laboratory
in your white coat and safety glasses,
you can die for people--
even for people whose faces you've never seen,
even though you know living
is the most real, the most beautiful thing.
I mean, you must take living so seriously
that even at seventy, for example, you'll plant olive trees--
and not for your children, either,
but because although you fear death you don't believe it,
because living, I mean, weighs heavier.

-Nazim Hikmet

Sources

If anyone is curious about my sources for inspiring home ideas, my secret is basically that I read a lot of design blogs.

Here are some of my favorites:
-Oh Joy!
a blog about "~ a freelance home accessories, textile, & graphic designer
~ inspiration, design, style & other cool things - locally or across the country
~ cool finds in philadelphia"

-Bloesem
a blog about "lovely items and beautiful bits and pieces"

-Decor8
This is a serious resource for design hunting. It contains a TON of links to other design blogs and places to shop. For even more inspiration, check out the Decor8 flickr photostream

-Design Sponge
"a daily website dedicated to home and product design run by Brooklyn-based writer, Grace Bonney. Launched in August of 2004, Design*Sponge features store and product reviews, sale and contest announcements, new designer profiles, trend forecasting and store/studio tours. In addition, Design*Sponge features a unique section dedicated to covering student design, national and international design shows. The site is updated constantly throughout the day (with an average of 6-10 posts a day)"

-On My Desk
Creative people show off their work spaces. What's not to love?

Hope you enjoy!

Beautiful things

What's a great space without beautiful things to fill it with?
I love things that are designed after nature, and obviously my tastes are more than a little bird related.

some people might think these are creepy, but they reminded me so much of Charlie and the chocolate factory I fell in love with them.
